Berlin - transforming

Launched in October 2013, “Transforming” investigates the material ghost of circa 3,000 forced labor camps that operated in Berlin and Brandenburg between 1939 and 1945. It thus scrutinizes the transformation of public urban spaces throughout the twentieth century. Based on the research of German historian Rainer Kubatzki, the project documents the former locations of the camps and creates a historical topography of the city of Berlin.
