Krems - Memory Practise
During a residency in Krems in summer 2017, the project continued to research similar war-crime scenes. This involved contemplating the culture of memorials and monuments. How can and should collective memory be represented? To what extent do conventional tools of remembrance – such as monuments and memorials – actually elicit forgetfulness by disconnecting history from the present? “Memory Practices” directs our attention to the banality of evil: the process in which individuals adapt themselves to social life by renouncing independent moral judgments.
